一书一世界,一页一天堂。

无限手中置,刹那成永恒。

To see a world in your favorite book

And a heaven on a page,

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand

And eternity in an hour.

Just as Charles W. Elio says, ‘Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers’. Do you have s uch friends and teachers? Is it the Little Prince or Harry Potter who tells you about his fancy journeys in your dreams, or Charlotte with her friends running freely with you on the farm?

Have you ever tried sitting by the window, holding your favorite book with the warm sunshine sparkling on you? You must have, or you wouldn’t share with us so many excellent thoughts.

Now we are going to share with you some wonderful pieces of your works.

Book Review of Magic Tree House series by Young

The fiction series of Magic Tree House, written by Mary Pope Osborne, intrigue me a lot with many adventure stories. My book review is going to introduce this book and express my personal views towards it.

The book series tell about the stories of the adventures taken by a brother and a sister, eight-year-old Jack and seven-year-old Annie, together with their friends, an enchantress of King Arthur’s time, Morgan Le Fay.

The writer depicts Jack as a knowledgeable boy with rational-thinking, Annie as an imaginative and adventurous girl and Morgan Le Fay is not only an enchantress, but also the sister of King Arthur and the master librarian of Camelot’s library.

At the beginning of each story, Jack and Annie always go to Frog Creek Woods first, climb up a tall oak tree, and get into the magic tree house which they found in the very first book.

There they will be given a mission and a book about the place they need to go. Then the magic tree house will take Jack and Annie to the place described in the book. All they need to do is to simply point to a picture on the book and say the magic words, “I wish we could go there!”

After they complete each mission, the Pennsylvania book, which has the picture of Jack and Annie’s hometown, Frog Creek, will appear in the tree house. And that means they can finally go home. Mary pope Osborne is a fantastic author. She gifts her readers with breath-taking story lines and thrilling plot twists that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Every story takes the reader on a journey. One day you could take a trip back in time to when dinosaurs existed and the next you are inside a pyramid surrounded by mummies. Furthermore, her writing is so descriptive. It is easy to become completely absorbed in her words. You may find yourself needing to take a break from reading and return to reality for a while.

In conclusion, I strongly recommend Magic Tree House series to my friends and classmates. Not only can reading these books improve your English but the exciting and adventurous story lines will keep you entertained for hours. In addition, this series shows us how important it is to have both an adventurous spirit and rational thinking.

Book Review of Wonder by Gina

“You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.”

Wonder, written by R.J.Palacio is one of my favorite books. The book talks about an “ordinary” boy, August and his family.

There are lots of characters in this story: August, Via, Mom, Dad, Jack Mr. Browne… All the characters have different characteristics. I’d like to talk about August. August is a very shy boy because of his ugly face. He doesn’t go to school until ten years old. He wants to be an astronaut in the future, but he can’t face other people because they will laugh at his ugly face. Fortunately, he has good parents who always support him, a caring sister who loves him and always keeps him in company, a close friend who always plays with him and an inspiring teacher who always encourages him to be brave.

I have to say I love the sentence: “When given the choice between being right or being kind. Choose kind.” I LOVE IT! What is kind? Am I a kind person? How can I become a kind person? These are all valid questions. The answer is — to be a kind person means to STAY TRUE and work hard. Kindness can be expressed in countless ways. It just depends on your own personal interpretation.

I really recommend this book to you, no matter how old you are. You can watch the film adapted from this book, too! After reading it, you will know “What ‘kind’ is in your heart and in your mind”.

Other excellent excerpts from book reviews of this Book

Excerpt 1 by Horch

Sometimes, Via’s little brother August annoys her, but she is always there to help and comfort, just like an angel. She is the forgotten one in her family, but she is very independent and can do almost everything by herself.

Wonder captures my imagination and every time I read it, my brain is filled with its touching plots.

Excerpt 2 by Lena

Though August was isolated by his classmates at first, he finally harvested friendship, respect and love. He found this through courage, kindness and wisdom. And he became a wonder.

There are two sentences that impressed me most: “When given the choice of being right or being kind, choose kind.” and “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” I think kindness is a very important quality for us to have.

Excerpt 3 by Jonathan

Friendship is the most important thing in Wonder. With friendship, August began to work hard; with friendship, he left behind his fears of inferiority; with friendship, he became a wonder. Becoming a wonder is not hard, and we just need to work hard and have friendship.

Excerpt 4 by Andy

What is friendship? What is love? Wonder gives us the answer. There’s no such thing as a perfect friendship. Love and friendship are complicated. We may have misunderstandings and bad times in a relationship. Our parents may get angry or disappointed with us, but that is often because they love us. Also, do not judge a book by its cover. One’s face may be scary and strange, but you cannot blend in when you were born to STAND OUT. I’m sure everyone is a wonder.

Other Excellent Pieces

Excerpt from the book review of Inside out and Back Again by Helen

She has only known Saigon: the thrills of its markets, the joy of its tradition, the warmth of her friends close by, and the beauty of her very own papaya tree. But now the Vietnam War has reached her home. Hà and her family are forced to flee as Saigon falls. They prepare themselves for the journey and board on a ship headed toward hope. This is a moving story of a girl’s , dreams, grief, and healing as she travels from one country to another, one life to the next.

Excerpt from the book review of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by Miranda

The main characters of the story are Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Ron Weasley and Voldemort.

The writer portrays Harry Potter as a brave wizard, Ron as a cowardice wizard and Hermione as a hard-working and clever witch. Dumbledore is shown to be a wizard who is full of wisdom, and Voldemort is of course an evil wizard who wants to control the world.

In my opinion, the author wants us to discover the different qualities of each character such as, Harry’s bravery, Hermione’s strong work ethic and so on.

Excerpt from the book review of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Sophie

The other thing I’ve learned is about influence. Parents’ bad habits and lack of discipline have greatly influenced the children’s behavior and molded them into the people that they are.
