The transdisciplinary unit builds a curriculum framework with six transdisciplinary themes. It focuses on the common issues of human beings and covers culture, ecology, politics, economy, technology and other fields. It builds a connection between children and the real world through collaborative inquiry. Inquiry-driven learning integrates perspectives and ways of thinking across all disciplines, making each subject a vehicle for in-depth exploration.

While implementing the national curriculum standards, the Mandarin subject integrates core literacy with transdisciplinary themes, focusing not only on basic language acquisition, but also on the development of critical thinking through language acquisition. We carry out integrated teaching of transdisciplinary concepts and inquiry, guiding the students in their exploration of the real world. Throughout the curriculum, we emphasize the importance of reading and the inheritance of traditional culture in contemporary society, ranging from characters to literature to culture and knowledge to ability to literacy. We aim to develop our students’ critical thinking ability, mental and emotional well-belling as well as moral and character growth.

The subject of mathematics carries out bilingual teaching. With the national curriculum as foundation, we integrate international teaching concepts and recent mathematical developments. These include the five major modules of arithmetic, graphics and space, data processing, pattern and function as well as measurement to implement knowledge, concepts, methods, and skills. Simultaneously, we focus on balancing the depth and breadth of mathematical concepts to cultivate the students’ core mathematical literacy with a solid foundation and expansion of thinking. While implementing the integrated curriculum, we design rich exploration activities to build the connection between mathematics and real life. The students understand the connection between family finances and family responsibilities through simple calculations. The combination of Chinese teachers, foreign homeroom teachers, and bilingual teaching create a natural language acquisition environment for our students. Students gain a diverse cultural experience in an immersive setting. We focus on dynamic learning curves, implementing differentiated teaching according to actual language levels, and carrying out timely and effective individualized counseling. Students learn to use English proficiently, enabling them to participate in English conversation and instruction with their peers, families, and teachers. Students also learn to read source material, make connections between texts and the concepts discussed in class, and demonstrate their understanding with commentary, reports, and diagrams.

The balance and integration of the two languages is an advantage we offer our students. They are immersed in an English curriculum with native English speakers while also mastering their mother tongue with native Chinese speakers. Students are encouraged to participate in inquiry-based learning bilingually, without relying on translation. By maintaining a focus on language learning across all subjects, we provide students with wider choice, deeper inquiry, and a richer learning experience.

Art is a unique form of communication. Art studies at the Integration Department encompass music, performing arts and visual arts, where students are creators, problem-solvers, critical thinkers and artists in fun and thought-provoking art classes. They create works of art to raise awareness for the sustainable development of the earth. They design urban planning models to build a more harmonious living environment. They appreciate works of art from different periods and regions. They analyze cultural differences expressed through art. They explore representative musical works from different nationalities and styles. They also use different timbre methods to sing and recreate works of various themes and styles. They express their understanding of the world in continuous and coherent artistic activities.

The purpose of the Personal, Social and Physical Education curriculum is to develop awareness and take action for the students’ physical and mental health. Through physical training, the students understand their physical characteristics, build a sense of self-identity, and shape their resilience.
